چکیده

Field emission is one of the main factors that can limit performance superconducting radio frequency cavities. To reduce possible field in Linac Coherent Light Source II (LCLS-II), we are developing plasma processing for 1.3 GHz nine-cell The ultimate goal will be to apply technique situ cryomodules order mitigate hydrocarbon-related without disassembling them. Herein presented first systematic study applied LCLS-II Having developed a new method ignition cavities, cavities starting with clean nitrogen doped cavity and proceeding studying natural artificially contaminated All were cold tested before after cleaning compare their performances. It was proved this successfully removes carbon-based contamination from iris it able eliminate naturally emitting cavity. effect on exposed vacuum failures also investigated, showing positive results some cases. This work shows how successful removing hydrocarbon related surface affecting high Q-factors quench fields characteristic

The Linac Coherent Light Source II (LCLS II) at SLAC

The Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) will be the world’s first free-electron laser at Ångström wavelengths (XFEL). It will be the first high brightness hard x-ray source with full transverse coherence. Its average brightness will exceed that of the brightest existing x-ray sources by a factor of 100 and its peak brightness will exceed them by a factor of ten billion. Its ultra-fast pulse stru...

Experimental studies of light emission phenomena in superconducting RF cavities

Experimental studies of light emission phenomena in superconducting RF cavities, which we categorize under the general heading of cavity lights, are described. The cavity lights data, which were obtained using a small CCD video camera, were collected in a series of nine experimental runs ranging from ~1⁄2 to ~2 h in duration. The video data were recorded on a standard VHS tape. As the runs prog...

Rf Design for the Linac Coherent Light Source (lcls) Injector*

The Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) will be the world’s first x-ray free electron laser, and the successful operation of this very shortwavelength FEL will require excellent beam quality from its electron source. Therefore a critical component is the RF photocathode injector. This paper describes the design issues of the LCLS RF gun and accelerator structures. The injector consists of a 1.6 ...

Linac Coherent Light Source Undulator Rf Bpm System *

The Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) will be the world's first x-ray free-electron laser (FEL) when it becomes operational in 2009. The LCLS is currently in the construction phase. The beam position monitor (BPM) system planned for the LCLS undulator will incorporate a high-resolution X-band cavity BPM system described in this paper. The BPM system will provide high-resolution measurements of...

The Linac Coherent Light Source

The Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory was the first hard X-ray free-electron laser (FEL) to operate as a user facility. After five years of operation, LCLS is now a mature FEL user facility. Our personal views about opportunities and challenges inherent to these unique light sources are discussed.
